Laurence was born on Christmas Day 1982 in Cheltenham, England. His mother is from Newcastle and his father is from Kermenshah, Iran. He has a younger brother, Harry.
Laurence took part in a variety of sports throughout his school years including Football, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball, Table Tennis and Kung-fu. He was a junior national under 12 champion at Kung-fu and played Rugby for the South-West. Laurence is also a qualified table tennis coach and played at County level.
As a kid, Laurence always loved watching World's Strongest Man at Christmas, but didn’t actually start weight training in a gym until he was 22.
After watching a Strongman show on Eurosport, Laurence decided that he would like to try his hand at Strongman and entered his first competition in 2005 having done no Strongman training at all. Laurence placed 8th out of 35 competitors at this first competition and after really enjoying this experience, he decided to focus on Strongman training.
In 2006, Laurence entered the Midlands qualifier for Britain’s Strongest Man and placed 6th, failing to qualify for the event.
The following year, he won Midlands' Strongest Man and qualified for his first Britain’s Strongest Man competition. At his first event at Britain’s Strongest Man, he managed to make the final. However, a bicep tear ended his competition and he placed 8th.
In 2008, Laurence returned to Britain’s Strongest Man having again won the Midlands' Strongest Man competition. Laurence placed 4th overall and qualified for his first World's Strongest Man competition. He travelled to Charleston, West Virginia, USA for this event and placed joint third in his group – a great achievement in such a short space of time.
Laurence currently lives in Stroud with his girlfriend Maz and cat Hugo.
Laurence is training harder than ever to achieve his goal of becoming World’s Strongest Man.
